Expensive Recall for DePuy Orthopedics
The healthcare and pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson is at odds with the actions of one of its daughter companies, DePuy Orthopedics. The company specializes in orthopedic prosthetics and has had success with their hip replacement implants. Sadly, for both company and patients, turned out the devices were flawed and now DePuy is facing a class action lawsuit even after having pulled all of the remaining stock of the prosthetics out of the market. There are calls all over the media and the internet for people who have been fitted with the device, or family members of people who have, to contact DePuy hip lawyer, have their case analyzed and possibly join the class action lawsuit. As the number of people in the lawsuit piles up, so does the potential settlement fee that the company will have to pay.
This particular piece of news caught many people off guard mainly for two reasons. First of all, Johnson & Johnson is a reputed company, known to have high quality standards. It ranks consistently high in corporate reputation studies and has been considered the world’s most respected company. Another cause for surprise is the fact that DePuy itself was doing very well, with high profits and a seal of quality that was trusted throughout the medical world.
So not only will this recall be expensive, especially with the following lawsuit, there will also be a price to pay in terms of consumer trust. And that is something that money cannot buy back, and surely the great minds behind Johnson & Johnson will already be considering what steps to take to solve this.

American Express Financial Advisors Under Fire
There is a ton of controversy on the web as consumers and experts alike debate the pros and cons of ‘fees only’ financial advisors vs. financial advisors that work for a company that sells financial products. One of the companies that have come under fire in recent years is American Express. More specifically, Ameriprise Financial, Inc. which is a subsidiary of American Express in business to sell such financial products as annuities, mutual funds, insurance and other financial or investment products. First and foremost, although Ameriprise Financial charges a fee to consumers for their products, they also get a commission on what they sell those consumers. As a result, many consumer watchdog groups advise against using an American Express financial advisor because their ‘advice’ could very well be biased. The whole point of a financial advisor is to provide sound financial advice to consumers who are looking to get out of current debt and/or build an investment in their financial futures. When an ‘advisor’ is getting a commission based on what he or she is able to convince you to buy, it could very well be that the product they are selling you is really not the best route for you to take.
If a person in Tennessee is looking for some sound and ethical financial advice, it is possible to do a search for an independent and ‘fees only’ Tennessee financial advisor online. Rather than go through the auspices of a financial firm that also sells financial products, a fees based financial advisor will be getting the same fees based on whether or not you buy product A or B, and even if you don’t buy any financial products, they still get the same fees. The point is, if that financial advisor is giving you advice, and they stand nothing to gain from you choosing one route over the other, chances are they will give you the advice that ‘you’ need to hear! Whether you are in current financial straits or are looking to invest in your future or the future of your loved ones, the best financial advice is to stay away from financial advisors who have a not-too-hidden, hidden agenda. You would be well advised to search online for an independent advisor or contact a local advisor out of the yellow pages in your local phone book. And, one question that you should always as is whether or not they get a commission or ‘kick-back’ from the companies they recommend you invest in. Your financial advisor should have a fiduciary relationship with you, not the company selling a product.

All round protection
Insuring your home is the modern and, perhaps, easiest way of defending it. This, of course, using the “a man’s house is his castle” metaphor freely. There are, in fact, other things that you can do to actually protect your house, like installing burglar alarms, smoke and fire detectors, sprinkler systems and other security measures. But when a large disaster or accident strikes, these methods, although effective in their own field, are totally useless. So, the ultimate, all round protection would be to use all of this and then have home insurance as a backup.
There are, of course, tricks to optimizing your home insurance. You have to, first and foremost, read up a little on the lingo and the normal conditions that standard insurance packages offer. From then on, it’s all a matter of choosing something that you’re comfortable with. Don’t be afraid to take time in the process of selecting a home insurance policy that fits your needs. Also, don’t be afraid to ask the insurance agent all the questions you need to feel absolutely confident. A good insurance salesman will have the answer to all questions you might ask, and will also help you pick and insurance policy that’ll be the most convenient for you.
